PLANS to close Exeter bus station, which will affect bus users in the Post’s area, on October 28, to allow for a major redevelopment of the site have been put on hold, writes Christine Williams.

At an extraordinary meeting at the Guildhall in Exeter on Thursday, October 12, the city councillors backed a recommendation to postpone the closure until the end of February 2018 at the latest.

The closure will impact in passengers travelling to Exeter in bus number ‘6’ from Bude and Holsworthy and the ‘6A’ from Launceston since they will be dropped off and picked up at a bus stand in the lower part of Paris Street.

Temporary stands with weather protection and information for passengers will be provided.

Those seeking a connection to National Express and Megabus services will have a considerable walk to another stand some distance away in Sidwell Street.

Passengers will be able to access toilet facilities at Shopmobility in Paris Street and the St Sidwell’s Centre in Sidwell Street and the Stagecoach Travel Shop will remain open to the public after the station closes.
