TESCO, in partnership with Torridge District Council (TDC) and the Joint Delivery Team (JDT) Regeneration Partnership, held two public exhibitions in Holsworthy Market Hall to display their plans for a new foodstore on the current Livestock Market site at Underlane, Holsworthy.
As part of a joint programme of consultation, TDC and the JDT presented the plans on Wednesday, October 5 and Saturday, October 8 and representatives were on hand to answer any questions (as previously reported in the 'Post').
The majority of Holsworthy residents have given their backing to proposals from Tesco for a new store on part of the town's Cattle Market. Over 400 local residents packed into the Market Hall over two days to see information and hear proposals for the food-led store and also news of the new Cattle Market proposed on land near the existing Dobles Lane Industrial Estate.
Torridge District Councillor for Holsworthy, Michael Footitt attended Wednesday's meeting, he said: "It was very heavily attended and there were some not so positive remarks, but you would expect that anywhere."
Peter Quincey, Leader of the Joint Delivery Team, commented: "We were delighted with the high number of people who turned out in very poor weather to view the agri-business centre and Tesco proposals. We received very strong support for the project and a number of very important issues were raised which we will take on board to improve the project."
