PRE-APPLICATION advice has been sought from Cornwall Council for the conversion of Penclease House care home in Clease Road, Camelford, to six flats.

The application was discussed by town councillors at a recent meeting, and concern was raised about access and lack of parking spaces.

Councillors were told the possible conversion would include six two-bed flats, 11 car parking spaces and five garages. The house part had previously been sold, so the application was for the former care home part of the site.

Cllr Kirsty Ferguson said: “Where are they going to put the garages?”

Cllr Claire Hewlett added: “I just think it’s over development. There’s no outside space, there’s nothing there.”

Cllr Andy Shaw said access to the site is just off a bend, adding: “I fear someone is going to get damaged there with 15 to 16 cars in and out of there on a regular occurrence.”

He also raised a number of points — he said the plan did not include any external fire escapes, there was a lack of parking and a lack of recreational space.

Cllr Aaron Dawe said: “I think it’s what the town needs for affordable housing,” but Cllr Hewlett said the affordable housing rules do not kick in unless there are ten or more units.
