PLANNERS have refused an application for a Co-operative store in Kilkhampton. Campaigners attended Cornwall Council's East Sub-area planning committee meeting to hear councillors refuse an application for a Co-operative store in Kilkhampton. One member of 'Keep Kilk Local' spoke on behalf of the group at the meeting, which took place at Liskeard on Monday (August 18). Katie Croxton said the application 'may meet planning criteria for a town but this is a village and should be taken into account'. "If this application goes ahead there will be empty shops in our once thriving village. "Bude has recently stopped Tesco coming into the area. How is this not the same as we are part of the Bude community network area?" Mrs Croxton thought the application would put the local economy into 'jeopardy'.
