A TEN-year-old boy from St-Giles-on-the-Heath underwent a pioneering new surgery last year, merely a month after it was announced in medical journals, and his family are pleased with his progress.

Reece Fiander was diagnosed with early-onset scoliosis at aged eight, a curve of the spine that can affect teenage girls and young children.

Most young children diagnosed with scoliosis have to go through repeat spinal surgery every six months until they are fully grown. If left untreated, it can affect the lungs and growth, and in some cases can be fatal.
