A POD of around 50 common dolphins were recently came to investigate photographer Rupert Kirkwood on his sea kayak in Torbay recently.

Rupert, a 56-year-old retired farm vet from Holsworthy, had been watching them from a respectful distance because he saw they had calves with them and didn’t want to frighten them, however it was the dolphins who came over to say hello and ride his ‘bow’ wave.

Rupert said: “It was a thrilling experience and some images to brighten up the gloomiest of days.”
