PLANS have been submitted to extend Pensilva Health Centre and create four additional consultation rooms as part of an expansion aimed at improving facilities for the local community.
The proposal would see a single-storey extension built on the lawned area to the rear of the existing health centre.
Documents submitted by applicant Katie German state the health centre currently has an unusual layout, having been extended over time, but there is now a need for additional consultation space.
The proposed works would convert an existing health space into two consultation rooms, while a new corridor would lead into the extension, which would provide two further rooms.
The extension would add approximately 40.1 square metres of internal floor space, taking the health centre’s total gross internal area to around 509 square metres.
The development would remain at ground-floor level and would not alter the existing main pedestrian or vehicle access to the health centre.
The plans include five new double-glazed uPVC windows designed to match those already installed in the building.
The existing health centre has a pebbledash finish, while the new extension would feature painted smooth render and a concrete tiled roof. Its ridge height would be lower than the existing building.
According to the supporting Design and Access Statement, existing landscaping around the health centre would remain unchanged.
The health centre is located on the outskirts of Pensilva’s residential area, close to Pensilva Primary School and the playing fields. Although the building is not listed and is not within a conservation area, the site sits on the edge of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site.
The planning statement says the extension would result in only a minor increase in the building’s scale and would be largely screened by existing landscaping.
The applicant is seeking approval from Cornwall Council for the proposed extension
