THE Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir is visiting the UK again to raise money to support the educational and welfare work in Uganda.
There are nearly 2,000 children in their schools in the suburbs of the sprawling city of Kampala and in a children’s village in the countryside.
These schools, homes with ‘Mamas’ as well as a clinic are owned and run by the Molly and Paul Childcare Foundation, which depends on their financial support from the UK.
The biggest contributors are the Pearl of Africa Child Care Ltd, which is a UK registered charity. Many of the dependent children are orphans and most are unbelievably poor to western eyes.
Fourteen of them, plus four adult helpers acting as temporary guardians, will be in the Launceston area for one week from Sunday, November 19. They are spending a day in each of five schools in the east of Cornwall and Plymouth — Launceston College, Plymouth, Liskeard, Bude and St Austell, as well as a cimilar time in West Cornwall.
During the day they do workshops which end with an evening concert to which members of the public are invited. They are staying with local families who have generously volunteered to host them for a week.
Concerts will take place at the Old Hall, Launceston College on Thursday, November 23 and Central Methodist Church, Launceston on Saturday, November 24 at 7.30pm.
