WHEN the café closed at Upper Tamar Lakes for the winter, parkrunners were said to be devastated, so one man decided to take matters into his own hands.
Every runner must have a hot drink and a cake after their weekly 5km exercise thought volunteer Steve Carter, from West Putford, so he stepped in and, with the permission of the South West Lakes Trust, set up a charity ‘pop up’ coffee shop.
Cakes were made by volunteers each week and a total of £622 was raised and shared between the RNLI and the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.
Parkrun is held at 9am every Saturday morning at Upper Tamar Lakes and all are welcome to join to walk, jog or run.
