OVER £5,000 is to be spent repairing an area of matting in the children’s play area of Delabole park.

The matter was discussed by St Teath Parish Councillors at the June 4 meeting.

Councillors heard that only one quote had been received for the work, from Schoolscape for £5,160.

They said there were two options on the table, to go with the received quote, or to close the play area off.

Questions were raised into the amount quoted, but Cllr Gerald Heard said: “The children haven’t got much in the park as it is. If we close it down, it will be bad for the village.”

A proposal was made to accept the quote and get the work done. Ten councillors voted in favour, one against and one abstained from the vote.

Cllr Chris Keat said it would be good to know how much the council had in its reserves before the council commits to this kind of money. The clerk said she would provide him with a copy of the bank statement.
