A MISSING Macaw parrot from Trebursye, near Launceston, has been found and re-captured — much to the delight and relief of his owner.
Coco, aged three, a very colourful Macaw with a bright yellow chest and blue head and wings, and long tail went missing on August 24.
His owner, Pauline Dwyer, of Trebursye, reported the disappearance of the valuable Macaw to the police, local vets, and the RSPCA and feared for Coco's safety. She put up posters and notices.
Coco was finally spotted after a few days and Pauline and relatives set out to lure him down from a branch at another house in the area.
But, all attempts were unsuccessful and Coco eventually flew off with the family despairing they would never see him again.
However, Coco turned up at the Winds of Change Public House, at South Petherwin — again in a tree and difficult to coax down.
Eventually, with help from the pub's owners, Coco was captured by Pauline.
Coco tried to fly off again but then fell from his branch into a bramble hedge,
"I just climbed into the bramble hedge and grabbed him by the tail and held on," said Pauline.
"I managed to get hold of a foot and pulled him to my chest and held him there. A girl got the pet carrier and we got the door open and we pulled him in.
"It is fantastic — I am so lucky, Coco could have gone to Land's End.
"I had been distraught all week and it has been a nightmare. The relief is unbelievable, although Coco is very subdued."
Macaws can go without food for three days and can live until they are 80 years old.
