CHILDREN’S charity CHICKS held its annual golf day at Trethorne Golf Club, Launceston, on Friday, June 22.
The event raised an amazing £8,772, which will help fund free respite breaks for disadvantaged children at CHICKS retreats in Tywardreath, Cornwall, as well as the charity’s second retreat in Derbyshire.
A total of 30 teams enjoyed a full day of playing and hospitality at the picturesque Trethorne Golf Club.
CHICKS has expressed its gratitude to the main sponsor, Atkins Ferrie Wealth Management, and Hole in One sponsor, Efficient Comms.
The charity is offering congratulations to the winning team, Print Copy Scan, which offers services across the Plymouth area and Cornwall.
CHICKS regional fundraiser for the South West, Mick Ryan, said: “I would like to say a personal thank you to our many supporters who entered teams and the dozens of individuals and companies who donated wonderful prizes.
“Many thanks also go to our sponsors and we are extremely grateful to Carole Reip and all at Trethorne Golf Club for hosting such an enjoyable and successful day.”
CHICKS receives no government funding and relies solely on donations to provide free respite breaks for the increasing number of disadvantaged children from across the UK, including hundreds from many areas of Devon and Cornwall. The children CHICKS helps include those in care or suffering severe poverty, child carers and victims of abuse.
Although CHICKS respite breaks are free for the children to attend, each place costs the charity an average of £970 — events like the annual golf day play a huge part in funding the work that CHICKS carries out.
Mick added: “Supporting CHICKS gives disadvantaged children from across the UK the opportunity to have a break from their circumstances, making new friends, having adventures and finding their confidence.
“We are hugely grateful to all those who support our work by fundraising, volunteering or helping to raise awareness of CHICKS — thank you.”
