The Headland, famous for being Bude’s popular nightclub for many decades until its closure in 2007, will be ‘rewound’ next month with another reunion.

The first reunion, last year’s event, was born out of a mention and chat on a Nostalgia Bude Facebook page and turned into one of the most talked about local social events for some time. Now. Gary Provan, Amanda Davis and Paul Martin are doing all they can to ensure the 2015 reunion, under the name ‘REWIND’, on Saturday, October 10, is even bigger.

Gary said: “Initial planning got underway in November and as a team we have been working tirelessly to ensure the night is a greater success than last year.”

Gary was a DJ at the Headland in the ’80s and organised last year’s event as he is this year, but as he lives in Essex he enlisted the help of Bude pair Paul and Amanda. This time round the reunion team have secured a bigger venue — Penstowe Manor in Kilkhampton, and hope to raise a lot more than last year’s impressive figure of £1,300 for the Friends of Bude Sea Pool.

Gary said: “Tickets are £10 with all proceeds being split between the two charities and they’re moving fast now; we hope that we can avoid the last-minute rush this year by people grabbing their tickets earlier from Martin’s Group services on Queen Street, Bude, online from Eventbrite, or from our man on the ground in Bude, Mr David Trott who will also be a DJ on the night.”

Due to the location of the event, the organisers have also arranged accommodation packages for those who have moved out of the area and a bus service for those who still live locally, tickets for which can also be purchased from Martin’s Group services.

Gary added: “Once again we have had the full support of the DJ’s who have played or been involved in the Headlands success for over 25 years.”

DJs playing on the night will include Tristan Bolitho — now a breakfast DJ on Radio Bristol — event organiser Gary Provan himself — Ministry of Sound and Sky Fm, who will also be playing music from his era at the famous local night spot. Other DJs are all local people with strong ties to Bude and the Headland.

As well as raising money again for the FoBSP, other worthy causes will also reap the rewards of the popular event.

Gary said: “We have taken it upon ourselves to raise money not only for Bude Sea Pool but also for The Pirate FM trust which helps support individuals and organisations across Cornwall, Plymouth and West Devon and finally for Bude Skate Park, located at Crooklets.

“We have also been out contacting the businesses in Bude and surrounding areas who have been donating prizes for our raffle for which tickets will be available on the evening.

“Here I would like to mention Amanda Davis, who this year has been on board from the start and has worked tirelessly with local businesses in Bude and surrounding areas to gather prizes for the charity raffle, and there are some amazing prizes this year from key businesses in Bude and major attractions across Devon and Cornwall.

“We have received so much support already and are still continuing to be amazed at the generosity of the business owners.

“We hope this year’s event will surpass last year’s, providing much needed support to the chosen charities and the surprises we have in store this year will truly make it a memorable night in North Cornwall.”
