THE Army Cadets in Bude held an open day on April 28 to showcase to the community what they are involved in during the year.
Held at the detachment building opposite Zoeftig’s on the King’s Hill Industrial Estate, there were a number of interactive stands including uniform, radios, camouflage, cooking and first aid. There were a good number of visitors, both young people and parents, and all were impressed with what the cadets provided.
The detachment commander, 2Lt Ali Harper, said: “The Army Cadets provide young people with a fantastic array of activities. Along with the week-by-week activities, we have four cadets going on a visit to London, 14 to visit the regular army on Salisbury Plain, and two going to Latvia. We use these activities to teach young people the vital skills of leadership and to help build their character and their confidence.”
The Army Cadet Force in Bude continues to be a vibrant youth organisation and provides many different opportunities both locally and nationally. To find out more, email 2Lt Harper at [email protected] or go along to a detachment evening, which begin at 6.45pm and finish at 9.15pm.
