AN OFF-DUTY RNLI lifeguard rescued a father and his young daughter from the water in Bude harbour after they were swept off the breakwater by the large surf during one of the highest tides of the year on September 29.

Mini Fry, RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor for the Bude area (right), was returning from a fishing trip when the incident happened. He'd bought his fishing boat into the harbour and was just tying up when he heard shouts and screams for help.

Looking to see what was happening, he could see people on the cliffs pointing to the area around the breakwater and spotted three people in the water. He quickly got into his small dingy and rowed the 100 or so metres to where they were.
