A CHORAL society has hit a high note with its charity fundraising.

Bude Choral Society donated £500 each to representatives from the Friends of Bude Sea Pool and Cornwall Air Ambulance at its first rehearsal of the 64th season last Wednesday.

The money was raised from the society’s sell-out concert at the Parkhouse Centre in Bude with the Bencoolen Wreckers earlier this year.

Choir chairman Philip Uglow said he is looking forward to a ‘busy season of music-making’, with members singing the Messiah at Holsworthy for The Long House on September 26, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio on December 5 at St Michael and All Angel’s Church in Bude, and a programme of Austro-German Romantic music on April 9 next year, also in Bude.

Choral society members will also be joining North Devon and South Devon Choral Societies in two performances of Verdi’s Requiem with full orchestra in Torquay and Barnstaple in July.

A society spokesperson said: “The society is always keen to welcome new members from any voice part, young or older, so if you like music, enjoy singing and want to have some fun and meet new people, then why not consider joining this friendly and enthusiastic choir?

“If you are interested but want to find out more without any obligation, then please come along on a Wednesday evening at 7.30pm in Stratton Primary School, where you will receive a warm welcome.”
