THE Conservative MP for North Cornwall has resigned from his position as parliamentary private secretary to the treasury, stating that he is not prepared to compromise the wishes of many of his constituents to ‘deliver a watered down Brexit’.
Scott Mann MP (pictured) announced on Monday, July 16 it was ‘with a great deal of sadness’ that he would be resigning from the role.
He wrote to Prime Minister, Theresa May, stating that it has come to his realisation that elements of the Brexit white paper would put him ‘in direct conflict’ with many people in his constituency.
He said: “I am not prepared to compromise their wishes to deliver a watered down Brexit.”
Mr Mann said a large section of North Cornwall wished to have control over their fishery, agricultural policy, money, laws and borders, adding: “I will evaluate those core principles against the Brexit white paper and ensure that I vote in line with their wishes.”
