THERE are no definite plans to close Barclays Bank branches in North Cornwall or West Devon in the wake of last week's reports that the company was planning to close 400 branches and move them into Asda stores.

As more customers migrate to digital banking, the lack of footfall in bricks and mortar branches will have an affect on their long-term financial viability. Following a need to save costs, it has been reported many banks will be looking to close branches.

A spokesperson for Barclays Bank PLC, which has branches in Launceston, Camelford, Bude, Holsworthy, Callington and Okehampton, has stated that although there will be closures, it has 'no list of branches which will close or time-frame in which it will do so' and closures will be based on customers' use of branches.
