POLICE have closed off a main route through Newquay town centre following storm damage to a flat development caused by Storm Austen.
Narrowcliff has been shut off after high winds loosened cladding at the Cliff Edge development, which has created a safety risk. Diversions have been put in place.
A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: “Those responsible for the site are arranging specialist equipment to remove the loose material, but high winds mean the work cannot be carried out safely and is unlikely to take place before Monday.
“Cornwall Council is putting a signed diversion in place. Please avoid the area, follow diversion signs and allow extra time for your journey.”
