THE reserved matters planning application to build 259 homes, hotel, fast food restaurant and drive through coffee shop in Launceston has received the support of the town council’s planning committee.

The committee briefly discussed the application for land South East of Pennygillam Industrial Estate, Slate Quarry Hill, at its meeting on October 20.

Hybrid planning permission for the site was granted by Cornwall Council three years ago, with the authority yet to make a decision on this latest reserved matters planning application.

The current proposals include 259 dwellings, a 40 bed lodge hotel, a coffee shop and fast food restaurant, and all associated infrastructure.

Deputy mayor Cllr Margaret Young said: “A drive-through coffee shop would be nice for Launceston,” while planning committee chairman Rob Tremain joked: “I’m sure I would spill it before I get to the other end.”

Cllr Tremain added the proposed development access ‘doesn’t seem to be affecting the Millennium trees’ along the town’s Link Road.

Members of the committee asked if they could be updated on the latest with the proposed Morrisons supermarket for the site.

Cllr Dave Gordon said a representative of the development had given town councillors an update around six months ago, but asked if the gentleman could meet with them again.
