THE new Cornwall Watercolour Society Show is now a permanent, but regularly changing, presence at the Camelford Gallery.

The Cornwall Watercolour Society, has opened a new show in the Camelford Gallery displaying an eclectic mix of work from fine botanical studies across the spectrum of abstract.

The society was formed back in 2005 and originally had eight members. The group are now 21 members strong and all come from across Cornwall; from Launceston, Bude, Boscastle, Bodmin, Wadebridge, St Agnes, Redruth, St Austell, Truro Falmouth and Penryn.

The society’s aims are to maintain the highest possible standards in the medium of watercolour — which does include gouache, but acrylic is not accepted.

They hold at least two exhibitions a year in Bude, Camelford, Rock and Penzance.

Nicky May, member of the society, said: “It is a fantastic opportunity for the artists of the Cornwall Watercolour Society to have a permanent space in which to showcase good watercolour paintings.

“Watercolour is a really exciting and versatile medium, ranging from delicate to very strong images, and should hold an equally important and valued a place as oils.

“We hope that the permanent space in The Camelford Gallery will provide a focus for promoting watercolours in Cornwall, and that it will become widely known as the ‘home’ of the Cornwall Watercolour Society.”

John Blight, the chair of the society, runs the Camelford Gallery and has offered the group a permanent space there to showcase their work.

The exhibition will be changed over on a regular basis, and the public is invited to visit the Camelford to see the show in its newly-opened space.
