A BRAND new play area will be provided at Upper Tamar Lake near Bude, thanks to a funding boost

Tamar Lakes, managed by the charity South West Lakes Trust, will implement the £58,000 project to provide a modern and interactive play area for children, of a wide range of ages and abilities, visiting the lake with their families.

SITA Cornwall Trust, who has provided £35,000 of funding and Cory Environmental Trust in Cornwall, who has contributed an additional £9,843 to the project — both of which have provided funding through the Landfill Communities Fund, to support the project.

Chief executive Andy Parsons said: “South West Lakes Trust recognised the need for improved play facilities at the lake over a year ago; since then we have been working with local organisations and relevant funders to secure the funding to enable us to deliver a fantastic new play area at the lake.

“We are very grateful to all our funders who also include the Cornwall Community Fund and South West Water. As a charity the trust has been able to contribute to the project through funds raised from car parking and the funding we have received has accelerated this project enabling us to achieve our goal in a shorter time frame.

“This is an exciting opportunity for us to provide a new facility and to work with organisations such as the Tamar Lake Forest School and Tamar Lake park run to actively encourage more families to visit the lake and to enjoy the range of activities on offer in this area.”

The South West Lakes Trust will be working alongside Playquest Adventure Play and hope completion on the new park will be reached in May.
