THE Launceston and District Cats Protection held its annual open and homing day on Saturday, September 9 at Mary Chudleigh’s, Hexworthy Barton.
Despite horrendous weather the event was well supported. Knowing the risk of bad weather, Mary had a good-sized marquee on the lawn and most stalls were located in this, staying dry and sheltered.
The Cats Protection goods and the cake stalls were inside the house, where refreshments of pasties, sausage rolls, cakes, tea/coffee, etc. were available. Many people took advantage of these refreshments and sat around the table talking.
The marquee contained a large number of stalls including a plant stall, good quality bric-a-brac, cat-related goods, large raffle, jewellery, and a number of rails of nearly new clothing. 2018 calendars, diaries and Christmas cards were available indoors on the CP stall as well as various other useful gifts, previous years’ Christmas cards were on special offer and there was the usual large selection of jigsaws.
The event raised the sum of £1,477.49 and most importantly two cats and nine kittens have got new homes to go to.
Secretary Carol Bennett said: “We wish to thank all who came and supported us on such a dreadful day and, of course, Mary and Chris for holding this event for the branch.”
