THIS September sees the creation of a new Scout group in Bude.
The 3rd Bude – Rowan Scout Group will meet at the Central Methodist Church Hall in Bude. The group name is in memory of the late Linda Bowden, who formed the first beaver colony at 1st Bude. In scouting, some leaders adopt particular names like 'Akela' for the Cub leader or 'Skip' for the Scout leader; Linda's scouting name for Beavers was 'Rowan'.
Her husband Cliff Bowden was present and to officially open it, along with two local councillors who were present to wish the group luck. Apologies were sent from the county commissioner Kevin Allen, district commissioner David Illsley, and development officer Salli Bartlett, who have all helped in the setting up of the new group.
