NORTH Coast Harmony is a new, all female contemporary vocal group from Boscastle, for ladies with or without experience, and would love for you to join them!

Singing a bit of everything, and hopefully something for everyone, its repertoire will be hugely varied, popular music across many genres, from the 50s right up to today — the kind of music you’d have expected to hear on a jukebox or radio at some time in the last 60 years.

Think The Chiffons to Sia, via Frank Sinatra and Green Day, with pretty much everything else in between. What it all has in common is that the ladies will be singing in unaccompanied harmonies.

Director Sian is skilled and knowledgeable; she’s an accomplished singer, specialising in female vocal harmonies, and experienced in working with ladies who have little or no musical background.

Having recently completed a conductors course and also a registered natural voice practitioner, Sian believes that everyone should have the opportunity to sing.

She said: “Over the years I’ve become more and more aware that ladies can be put off from joining vocal groups because of a lack of musical knowledge or the prospect of auditions; it can be intimidating. I’m passionate about there being another option.

“I believe that singing should be a positive experience, carried out in a fun, friendly environment, where it can be enjoyed, regardless of ability, experience or expertise. I will always welcome any lady who wants to join in and never ask anyone to audition.”

She added: “I do my utmost to help ladies find their best voice and to develop their vocal skills in a supportive way without criticism or judgement. I always use easy to understand language that is, as much as possible, free from technical wording and jargon, and ladies are not expected to read music. I teach utilising the tools you already have; your ears!

“I’ve been asked repeatedly over the last few weeks why I do what I do. It’s simple really. Aside from the social aspect, and many experts and studies agreeing singing benefits you physically and psychologically, I do it because I love it. I love meeting and spending time with ladies who love to sing, helping them to grow in confidence and develop their voice, and I love when it all comes together and some amazing harmonies are created.”

North Coast Harmony meets at 7pm in Boscastle Village Hall on Monday evenings.
