AFTER a few years without an active resident theatre group, Bude is about to see the launch of a new town-based drama/entertainments society.

The new group, to be known as Bude Independent Theatre Society (‘BITS’), is to hold an open meeting next week to present its plans for future productions.

The meeting is open to anyone who lives in and around Bude who is interested in any aspect of the theatre and would like to become a member of the new society.

BITS is looking for would-be actors, directors, producers, dancers, costumers, those with sound and lighting experience, set builders, painters and designers as well as front-of-house/admin and anyone interested in contributing.

Variety, drama, comedy, pantomime and perhaps musical productions are planned.

Bude Golf Club is the venue for the open meeting and the date is Friday, June 16, at 7.30pm. It is hoped that the first production will be staged in Bude later this year.

A member of the BITS steering committee, Lynda Savory, said: “We hope that anyone at all interested in any aspect of theatre production will come along to the meeting. This is an opportunity to hear about our exciting plans for BITS and for potential members to give feedback on what they would like to see performed in Bude theatre.”
