LAUNCESTON Day Centre was thrilled to receive new communication aids, thanks to funding from local councillors’ community chest grants from Liberal Democrat Councillors Gemma Massey and Jade Farrington.
Both Cornwall Councillors have been working closely with the day centre and its service users of late, this is just one thing in a line of support the councillors have offered to the day centre.
From police visits to local litter picks, they have been working hard together.
The day centre approached both councillors with an application for funds to purchase a new tablet, but more importantly a communication app to help support some of the service users.
Cllr Farrington said: “It was a pleasure to support this application, it is clear this piece of equipment will make a large impact on the communication training already ongoing at the centre. It was one of just many applications I have been able to approve this year.”
The day centre later posted photos on its Facebook page of some of the service users trying the equipment for the first time and thanking both councillors for their continued help and support.
Cllr Massey said: “It has been fantastic to see these funds go to projects that will give such a positive long term benefit to residents in our community. I have been working very closely with the day centre and its users over the past 18 months and seeing the difference this grant has made is icing on the cake!”
Cllr Massey is now working with the day centre as they plan yet another litter pick in the coming weeks, dates of which will be shared for any other resident who also wishes to volunteer their time too.
