DRIVING rain did not stop the crowds from turning out for the switching on of the Christmas lights in Tintagel on Saturday, writes Helen Pusey.

Neil Caddy from Pirate FM, who switched the lights on, said: "This is either my fourth of fifth time here and it is always a joy to come, despite the weather this year."

Mary and Joseph (Bella Dangar and Mia Gabriel-Tremain) led the procession through the high street with Camelford Town Band playing. Father Christmas was not far behind in his sleigh.

Burgers and sausages and roasted chestnuts and mulled wine added to the festive atmosphere.

The Tintagel Christmas lights committee works all year to organise the event with help from Tintagel Parish Council and many others who raise funds.
