BUDEHAVEN netball squads have started training for the new season.

A selection of players represented the school at the recent North Devon Year 7 Netball Tournament, hosted at Ashbury Golf Course near Okehampton.

Budehaven fielded three netball teams. Although not playing the full-sided games (they played five-aside) all the girls did well, and as the tournament progressed, gained in confidence and developed their netball skills. It was also great to see the girls start to gel in their respective teams.

Overall the ‘A’ team won two of their three pool matches and went through to the quarter finals, the ‘B’ team also won two of their three matches and also went through to the quarter finals. The ‘C’ team also did well, although not winning their matches in the pool, but showing so much determination to play well.

The ‘A’ team won their quarter final match against Holsworthy ‘A’ team, with the Budehaven ‘B’ team losing to Holsworthy ‘B’. It was a fast-paced game in the semi-finals which then saw the Budehaven ‘ A’ team lose to Holsworthy ‘B’. Considering the ‘A’ team squad of girls had played two back to back matches towards the end of a busy tournament, this was a pretty good result.

The following girls who took part: Skye Cameron, Emilie Gayle, Eva, Natasha Jackson, Amelie Chanock-Partis, Fern Paton, Sophie Piper, Kacie, Emilia Jose, Leah Chepsy, Amery, Anna Curtis and Chloe Armstrong.

A Budehaven spokesperson said: “A huge well done and congratulations to the Budehaven netball squads, in particular, to the new year 7 netballers who have joined the school and are now training and playing for Budehaven!”
