BUDE Music Society’s 70th public concert season has begun, with renowned Cornish conductor, Paul Drayton, presenting the Overture.

The season began with Paul — composer, conductor, lecturer, pianist and musical director of Cornwall’s Duchy Opera — presenting examples of the music to be heard and tales and anecdotes of the composers.

Some pieces on CD featured the artists themselves and by demonstrating on the piano, Paul explained the various styles and how some works came to be written.

The Overture, now a regular feature of the concert series, was much appreciated by the audience, with its mixture of performance and explanation.

Over refreshments, there was the opportunity to become members for the series with the advantage of a generous reduction as opposed to individual admission for each concert.

Anyone is still able to take advantage of this offer, which includes a discounted ticket for a friend to one concert, by emailing the membership secretary on membership@budemusicsociety, by calling 01288 350 568, or by attending the first concert by the Fontenella Recorder Quintet at St Martin’s Church, Killerton Road, Bude, on October 16 at 3pm.
