RESIDENTS at Beacon View, in Lewannick, are holding a fete to raise money to install fencing and play equipment for the children in their housing estate.

The fete takes place on Sunday (August 11) from 11am till 2pm at Beacon View and will have a lucky dip, bouncy castle, coconut shy and other stalls, as well as tea, coffee, cake and barbecue.

Dawn O'Brien, one of the organisers, said: "We wanted to do this as we have a great community spirit, almost like a family, and spend a lot of time together so feel this would be a great thing for the children.

"The idea came about when a few of us mums were having a cup of tea whilst the kids were playing, we originally thought of having a coffee morning and it has escalated from there."

Lewannick Village has recently regenerated a secure play area complete with a separate toddler area available on the village green next to the village hall.

A lot of hard work and support was given by local residents and businesses during the regeneration of this play area over the last 18 months.

The Beacon View project has only simple ambitions so that children on the estate can stay close to home.
