A MUM of three is to run the London Marathon in aid of the British Lung Foundation. Melanie Slade (pictured) of North Tamerton, is to take on one the biggest challenges of her life on April 22. She said: "I am running in aid of the British Lung Foundation as my dear dad, Chris Axford, has the severe lung condition emphysema due to alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency." Chris is currently on at least 16 hours of oxygen per day and due to his illness, took early retirement from Mole Valley Farmers, Holsworthy branch. Melanie and her dad have been involved in various organisations, including 1st Holsworthy Cub Scouts and Holsworthy U12s football team. Prior to the marathon, Melanie has been training hard, adding: "My training is going well, fitting it in and around looking after my three young boys. I have completed the Ruby Run half marathon and I am taking part in the Bideford half marathon."
