GEOFFREY Cox, MP for Torridge and West Devon, has told St George's Day campaigners "we are very close to our objective" as the government published plans, under part of its new Tourism Strategy, to make St George's Day a national holiday.

He urged supporters to respond to the government's consultation to take place later this year.
