Torridge and West Devon MP Geoffrey Cox has joined one of many in the New Year’s Honours List and has been knighted for his parliamentary and political service.
Sir Geoffrey Cox was given the prestigious honour following 15 years as MP for the Torridge area as well as a recently two year stint as the chief legal advisor to the government – the Attorney General (finishing in February 2020).
He said of his knighthood: “It was a great privilege to serve as Her Majesty’s Attorney General and Advocate General of Northern Ireland, particularly at a time so critical to the nation’s future, and I am honoured to receive a knighthood from Her Majesty for that service.”
The 60-year-old MP was a practising barrister before his political career and has since gone onto defend several high profile clients.
