OVER the years Torridge and West Devon MP Geoffrey Cox has helped raise thousands of pounds for the Plough Arts Centre in Torrington, and this year he has sponsored a successful event alongside Dr David Starkey.

Mr Cox sponsored a successful fundraiser with Dr Starkey, one of the UK’s leading constitutional historians, at the Plough on Saturday, November 28.

In the past Mr Cox has helped bring former MPs such as Michael Portillo and Ann Widdecombe to the town and has given his support while raising thousands for the Plough’s fundraising campaign.

Mr Cox said: “I was pleased to support The Plough Arts Centre once again this year in their fundraising campaign. The centre is an extremely worthy cause which receives virtually no publicly funded revenue, and yet brings fascinating and thought provoking performers and speakers to Torridge and North Devon.

“It is a superb example of a theatre in a small market town which stages a broad range of musical, art and theatrical events, as well as outreach, workshops, and educational groups, and it has been a centre of cultural activity in Great Torrington since 1975 — over 40 years.

“Dr Starkey held the audience spellbound with his vivid recreation of the 13th century politics that led to Magna Carta and the real truth that lies behind the myths.

“I would like to thank David for coming to The Plough and for playing such an important part in what was a very successful afternoon at this valued arts centre.”
