A DELEGATION from North Devon Ramblers' recently met Conservative MP Geoffrey Cox on a windswept Torrington Common to discuss walking-related issues.

The group is campaigning for full recognition of the part that walking can play in sustaining the health of the nation. A 'Manifesto for Walking' has been published and Ramblers are now lobbying politicians from all parties to support walking for health, and to ensure that any future government protects places where people walk and improves access to the outdoors.

Torridge and West Devon MP Mr Cox said he readily agreed the numerous benefits that walking can bring to realising the government's stated ambition to increase physical activity. Walking is proven to benefit mental health too.
