A MOBILITY charity that provides exercise sessions in Bude and its surrounding rural areas has received a substantial grant of over £200,000 from The Big Lottery.
A grant of £204,476 has been awarded to ‘Exercising For Mobility’ to enable it to continue delivering their free, social exercise classes for adults with a disability or a long-term health problem. The charity is completely inclusive to include those with dementia, depression or learning difficulties.
As the charity has grown in popularity, part of the grant will be used to find a project manger to assist the trustees and ensure the charity continues to operate at a high standard.
To date Exercising For Mobility has won four of Volunteer Cornwall’s prestigious awards. It is recognised by local health workers who regularly encourage their patients to join the classes.
There are four classes on offer every week at the Parkhouse Centre in Bude. On Monday classes are held from 9.30am to 10.30am and from 11am to noon. The Wednesday classes are held from 2pm to 3pm and from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.
All the exercise is done to music and most of the time is spent seated. The classes are suitable for all abilities and those who join are able to work at their own pace.
The only cost is a voluntary £1 donation, which includes light refreshments — these are served in the half hour break between classes.
During the year Exercising For Mobility holds coffee mornings, tea dances, outings and other social events. They laugh a lot, have fun and give people an opportunity to make new friends.
Exercising For Mobility is now looking for a project manager to assist their trustees in ensuring the charity continues to operate at a high standard. For anyone interested in applying for this position see the Post in January for more details. Successful candidates will commence employment on March 1, 2017.

l UNDER the Big Lottery’s ‘Awards for All’ Little Acorns Nursery in Camelford has also received a grant to help improve its facilities.
Little Acorns Nursery, Camelford, will use the £7,317 grant funding to help transform its little outdoor space into a ‘World of Play’. The project will use the funding to build a multi-sensory outdoor play area, which will help improve play facilities and increase attendance at community sessions.
