THE trustees of Coronation Park, in Launceston, are planning to install yet another piece of play equipment in the park having received £3,005 from the Co-op carrier bags levy.

Dave Gordon, chairman of the trustees, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Co-op and of course to all of the customers who voted for Coronation Park.

“This generous donation by the Co-op goes a long way to buying a substantial item of play for the park. But at a recent trustees meeting we decided rather than the trustees choose an item, we would like to hear from the local children what they would like to see in the park. Ideally it needs to be something that is not already in one of the town’s parks but we are open to all suggestions.”

The trustees will write to all local schools and want to hear from the children about what they would like to see in the play area — large or small — and it is hoped that the winning suggestion will be received by the trustees before their annual meeting in July.

The trustees have installed no less than six new items of play in recent years and it is hoped that the child or children who come up with the winning suggestion will be available to officially open the new piece of play equipment and receive free entry into the annual firework display on November 4.

It is hoped to have the new item chosen installed by the autumn, but this may well depend on availability and suppliers’ timescales.

All suggestions should be addressed to the ‘Coronation Park Trustees’, with a parent’s contact number or e-mail, and handed into the leisure centre in a sealed envelope by Saturday, July 1.
