BUDE Police community support officer, Stuart Baxter, recently organised a donation to Surf Action after a local man was moved to a nursing home, and had to part with his collection of military memorabilia.
It began when Gemma Sampson, a local solicitor, asked Bude Police to recover a quantity of ammunition from her client, Ghislain Guy Felix Mainwaring De Bethune's home. Mr De Bethune was recently taken ill and had now moved to a Whitstone nursing home.
PCSO Baxter said: "As one of Devon and Cornwall Police's firearms safety officers, I volunteered my services. In searching the outbuildings, along with Cal Aylmer, Mr De Bethune's daughter from Canada, we found a large collection of military badges and other items he had collected. This memorabilia related to his service with the 17/21st Lancers just after world war two."
