AN 'amazing time was had by all' who took part in the 'Walk a Mile in Her Shoes' event in Launceston — the first of its kind in Cornwall.

The event on?Sunday saw men walking a mile wearing women's footwear to raise awareness of men's sexual violence against women — International Women's Day.

The event started at Storm Nightclub and ended at Harvey's Bar and Bistro with a barbecue and live music.

A film crew was also in attendance. Filmmaker Vanessa Pellegrin and her camera crew shot further scenes for her upcoming documentary 'The Trouble with the F-Word', which focuses on the topic of feminism and looks at what it means to be a feminist or anti-feminist.

It will feature presenter Nick Lancaster, who also donned high heels to take part in the Launceston walk.

Organiser Carol Foy said: "It was brilliant, absolutely wonderful — an amazing time was had by all.

"All the guys were just so entertaining, There was no trouble — it was just wonderful.

"I am completely proud of the guys that took part. The best reward for me was standing outside Harvey's seeing smiles on their faces, hobbling with broken heels.

"The film crew got some good interviews. They had a lot of interviews with different people with stories to tell — victims, ex-perpetrators and people doing the walk in memory of other people."

Carol expressed her gratitude to Storm Nightclub and its staff, who she said 'went above and beyond'.

The proceeds are to be shared between charities that work with survivors of violence against women — to be decided once the final figure is known.

The money raised is up to about £1,600 so far, with a lot of sponsorship still to come in.

Carol said she is 'hoping to near the £2,000 mark'.

On her motivation for organising the event, she added: "I am behind the cause. We really need this type of support."

She said the walks should take place in every town and added: "It is a problem in every town, so why not?"
