TWO members of Bude Motor Club helped to raise £2,500 for charity on Wednesday, July 21 at a Llandow motor circuit track day in South Wales.
The fundraising track day provided an opportunity to drive their everyday cars at speed on this fast and twisty race circuit.
About 25 drivers took part in groups of eight, so there was no crowding on track and time to cool down between 10 minute sessions.
Despite some rainy weather in the afternoon everyone enjoyed themselves and the cars were all driven home in one piece.
Hannah Pickard from Red Post normally drives a tractor — this was a chance to exercise her Peugeot hatchback. John Petchey from Marhamchurch is now retired — he wanted to see how well his recent acquisition, a 1990 Porsche 944, would go.
John said: "This was a new experience for me. Tuition was provided from the start and I soon learned the discipline necessary for driving at speed on a circuit. It was great fun — both the car and I look forward to the next event."
A sum of £2,500 will be shared equally between The Ed Evans Foundation, which supports cancer research in Wales, and Combat Stress, who help ex-service men and women suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Gift Aid will add over £500 in addition.
