IN the 1960s a first world war British war medal was found during renovations of the original Clifton House on Teignmouth Esplanade.
The name engraved around the rim is John Anderson, but it is unusual that no regiment, rank or number appears, suggesting that its holder was not an active serviceman.
He must have survived the war in order to have received the medal, and the person who discovered it wonders if he perhaps served with the French Red Cross or some other non-military role.
