A NEW pet shop supplies outlet has come to Holsworthy, which opened its doors for the first time on the morning of June 25.
Mayor Jon Hutchings cut the ribbon to officially open ‘Holsworthy Pets’, which is owned by Ula Skowysz and Dan Baseley.
Dan said: “It was a very positive opening, we had a lot of local support, with many coming out to see us. We are very positive about the reaction to us opening as the previous store in Holsworthy that supplied pet goods is due to close down at the end of the week because the owners are retiring.
“We hope to continue on from the great work they did and will be supplying pet foods and accessories along with a collection of reptile goods, as there is nothing like that in the Holsworthy area.”
When asked why he had wanted to set up his own pet supply store, Dan said: “I used to work in a large reptile store and have owned reptiles in the past — in fact I have owned nearly every pet you can.”
The new owners will be providing a range of cat, dog, small animal, wild and indoor bird food along with accessories for pets in their store.
They will also stock live and frozen reptile food, including mealworms, wax worms, silent crickets, hoppers and adult locusts, and will also provide a selection of accessories and substrates.
Dan added: “We unfortunately can’t do a full range of products as we are only a small store. However, we will be providing a concise range and will work hard to make sure we can order in the items our customers want.
“Having worked with animals for a long time we are able to educate those who visit our store on the best equipment or food, but we do not claim to be experts and are really looking forward to sharing our knowledge and learning things from others in return to help us ensure the best possible service for the people of Holsworthy.”
Dan also added that they have named the store ‘Holsworthy Pets’ because they wanted it to be a store for the town and the people of Holsworthy.
As the garden shop in Victoria Square will be closing in the next week, due to retirement, the addition of a new pet supplies store will be welcomed.
