BUDE-STRATTON Town Mayor Cllr Lea Deely issued an apology last week after leaving members of the public who had turned up to the ‘meet your councillors’ drop-in sessions without a councillor to talk to.

The sessions started on Saturday, February 27 and were set to run fortnightly between 10am and 12pm at the Parkhouse Centre.

On Saturday, March 12, Cllr Deely was meant to be the councillor at the drop-in session to meet any residents that arrived to ask for help, advice or information regarding any council matters, however, those that did make the effort to go along were left disappointed as there was no councillor present.

Since then, Cllr Deely has issued the following statement: “I can only apologise for my non-attendance at the councillor surgery on Saturday (March 12). This was due to circumstances outside my control. It was unavoidable. There was no way I could contact anyone to let them know in time that I would not be present.

“Once again I can only apologise most profusely to anyone who was inconvenienced. This is down to me and is not any fault of the town council or any other councillor.”

Cllr Deely also told the Post: “The other drop-in sessions are still going to run as planned so I do encourage members of the public to go along and make use of them still.”

The sessions provide the people of Bude and Stratton with the opportunity to meet their town councillors in a more informal setting than at a council meeting, to speak on any topic, rather than sticking to an item on the agenda for instance.

The next session is set to take place this Saturday, March 26, at the Parkhouse Centre between 10am and midday.
