DISCUSSIONS were held between Holsworthy town councillors on Wednesday, November 1, with regards to the poor road condition at the entrance to the town’s football and RBL club.
For many years the short stretch of tarmac leading into the car park of the Magpie/RBL club, based at Upcott Field, has been in disrepair. The clubs contacted the town council recently to see if it would be able to help with repairs.
Town clerk Vanessa Saunders said: “There is a rather large area as you enter the football club that needs repairing. It is in fact our land — not including the lease — and we are therefore in charge of it and responsible for its repair. I haven’t had chance to find out pricings for this work so haven’t got back to them but wanted to get your thoughts on it first.”
Cllr John Allen enquired as to whether the repairs would be done in tarmac or stone and which would be more cost effective.
Ms Saunders said the repairs would have to be tarmac because of the nature of the site. The short stretch of road leading from North Road into the clubs’ car park is on a slope and stones would not be viable.
Mayor Jon Hutchings said: “I propose that it is our land and we will have to do something about it anyway so we go ahead and say yes we will repair it.”
Ms Saunders reminded Cllr Hutchings that she had not yet discovered the pricing and whether it would fit within their budget.
The council then jointly resolved to leave it up to the town clerk to cultivate some quotes and see that the work is completed in the near future.
