A MARQUEE could potentially be bought for events at the Castle, Bude, as discussed by councillors of the Bude-Stratton Town Council recently.

Cllr Frank Partridge reported at the meeting of the full council on October 6 that a document has been produced, following the previous recreation committee meeting, conveying how having a marquee would be suitable and what makes it feasible for the council to purchase one. Councillors were also presented with the document, to be provided with more information.

Cllr Partridge said: “This was discussed about ten years ago, but at the time we didn’t have appropriate storage facilities for a marquee. However, now we have the storage facilities. Please do ask questions, because it is a substantial amount of money we’re looking at here.”

Cllr Alan Biggs said: “I think if we have the money, it would be beneficial. It will pay itself back if we get enough money from it.”

Cllr Partridge went on to say: “This would be a service to the people of Bude and would provide all facilities. This is to give us a better package for the Castle. We have a fine facility here at the Parkhouse Centre, and I think this marquee would add nicely.”

He added in humour: “Heritage Day attracts rain in great volumes, so I think this marquee would make it better for the people of Bude. People will come along and think, on Heritage Day, ‘there’s a nice marquee where we will keep dry’.”
