IN tribute to his late father and former Fisherman’s Friend, Trevor Grills, son Paul will be taking on the London Marathon.

Paul, 30, will be running the marathon in April.

Trevor, a former Fisherman’s Friend, sadly lost his life in an accident three years ago while touring with the Port Isaac band.

At the time of his death, Trevor was ambassador of the Cornwall learning disability charity the Brandon Trust.

The money Paul raises from sponsorship, with the support of Fisherman’s Friends, will be donated to the Trust.

Paul currently works as an assistant head teacher at a secondary school in Surrey, while his close family all still live in Port Isaac.

He said: “The last three years, since the passing of my dad, have been extremely difficult and I think this is a great way to continue the support of Brandon Trust.

“My aim is to complete the marathon in memory of my dad. Dad was a proud Cornishman, who loved his family, his home in Port Isaac, watching his three boys play football and making the most of the opportunities that came his way, especially in the last few years of his life.

“He was a huge supporter of all the fantastic work Brandon does for people with learning disabilities.

“Also, growing up with his brother John, who has Down’s Syndrome, made Dad really appreciate the work organisations like Brandon do every day. I know he would be extremely proud to see Brandon is still being supported in his memory.”

This will be the first marathon challenge Paul has taken on and he has been training hard for it.

The Fisherman’s Friends are doing their part to support Paul and his fundraising efforts in memory of their former band-mate.

They will be collecting money, on Paul’s behalf, at all their future gigs across the UK leading up to the marathon, aiding him on his journey to achieve his fundraising goal.
