I AGREE with our local Poundstock Councillor. (Letter 'The Post,' April 16). The sell off of public utilities during the eighties and early nineties has left us with an appalling legacy of private companies with unreasonable powers who are able to run roughshod over the wishes of local authorities.
Local concerns over the Black Rock sub station at Widemouth Bay are still being addressed. Although Western Power Distribution have offered to redress some of the visual issues concerned, there are still some worries over highway safety; I had yet another site meeting on Friday, April 17; this time with Paul Allen and Oliver Jones from Highways and Keith Ferguson and Ian Parkinson from Western Power Distribution.
More details on access arrangements to the development are n
ow to be sought from the local planning department at Bodmin. Better local consultation and the need for the suppliers of public utilities to take on board such representations would avoid the need to redress such poor decisions at a later date.
Westminster should look into the permitted development rights which were passed on to private companies when our public utilities were sold off by the previous government.
Cornwall Councillor for Marhamchurch and Week St Mary,
