MANY towns across the area will be celebrating the Queen’s Birthday on April 21, and Holsworthy Town Council is looking into purchasing a gas beacon for the occasion.
The proposed idea for a beacon in Holsworthy was first suggested at a full council meeting on March 2.
The beacon will be lit on the Queen’s actual birthday on April 21.
It was proposed that the gas beacon be situated in the tower of St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Holsworthy.
At the town council’s finance and general purposes committee meeting held on Monday, March 21, the town clerk informed those present that the amount needed to purchase a gas beacon, along with the gas, would amount to £350.
Deputy mayor, Cllr Jon Hutchings has already raised £150 to go towards this total.
After discussion it was proposed that the remaining cost is to be supplemented by the town council’s ‘events budget’. The proposal was carried unanimously.
