It has been a busy month for one community academy in Launceston.
Pre-School students at St Stephens Community Academy have been exploring as part of their lifecycles lessons.
Students have really enjoyed learning about lifecycles and mini beasts in the school’s ‘Wild Tribe’ sessions recently.
Maura Furber, headteacher at the school, said: “The children adore adventuring in the vast school grounds, with so much space to run around and explore they show high levels of energy and fascination.
“This active learning encourages involvement, concentration, even when challenges occur, and making discoveries about all kinds of concepts which they can apply to other scenarios and develop their skills.”

Year 2 pupils at St Stephens Community Academy in Launceston, were delighted to welcome Sam from Barnardo’s into their classroom to take part in the Barnardo’s Healthy Relationships Programme.
Students learnt all about different relationship types and healthy and unhealthy behaviours within relationships.
Ms Furber, headteacher explained: “They really enjoyed discussing gender stereotypes and how we have the right to play with whichever toys we choose, regardless of the toy’s colours or people’s preconceptions. The class also learnt about ownership of your body and the right of everyone to feel safe, who we can be safe with and how and who to tell when we feel unsafe.”
Finally they talked about safe and unsafe secrets and how to access help, including identifying safe adults and services, locally and nationally.
Maura continued: “Lots of amazing discussion! The children were great at listening to each other and respecting everyone’s views and opinions. We know as a UNICEF Rights Respecting School how important this right is. (Article 14)
“We can’t wait to welcome Sam back later in the term to work with some other classes and share these important messages”
